Hair loss causes:
Alopecia, commonly known as abnormal
hair fall, has become very common nowadays. It can be the consequence of
several different factors. Many factors may be apparently visible but some of
them are least understood. Every different type of alopecia is an upshot of a
special group of factors making it possible.
Alopecia areata, which is considered
to be an autoimmune response of the body, affects about 2 percent of the
population altogether. This can be the consequence of many diseases like
excessive secretion of thyroid gland, any type of diabetes, occurring of white
patches on skin called vitiligo or a genetic disorder called Down’s Syndrome(
where individuals having the disease are mentally retarded, have chromosome
number abnormality and look like Mongols) also known as Mongolism. These are
all auto-immune responses of the human body. This particular disease type has a
very strong genetic basis. It is generally said that it can pass from one
generation to another. If any individual of the family has ever suffered from
the diseases showing above auto-immune responses, there are chances that other
family members might get susceptible to alopecia as well.

Male pattern baldness, also called Androgenic Alopecia, is basically considered
as a genetic disorder. It has a tendency of passing through generations. Its
main cause is the altering of the male sex hormone called testosterone. This
effect weakens the hair follicles gradually and hair loss is the final outcome.
Female pattern baldness or simply
hair fall is also a consequence of reduction in the female hormones in the
body. This condition generally commences when women undergo menopause (complete
end of the menstrual cycle). Estrogen, which is the major female sex hormone,
reduces in the body and hair fall takes place. Women also have problem when
they undergo some strong therapies. Chemotherapy is one of the major causes of
hair fall among women. Strong
ultraviolet rays entering the body during this therapy are aimed at killing any
cancerous cells but they sometimes affect healthy cells equally. In such a way,
healthy hair follicles are often destroyed and thus hair fall begins.
Some common practices of women also
cause temporary alopecia. While ironing, curling, bleaching, dyeing or blow-drying,
extensive damage is done to the hair through dry heat and strong chemicals.
These are stressful conditions that hair cannot withstand for long and start to
break. But this scenario does not last longer and hair starts to grow again
after sometime. Often fungus, commonly known as dandruff, can block the hair
follicles completely and hair having no embedded roots starts to fall off.
Scarring alopecia also has many
weird causes. Sometimes, due to some unknown reasons, scalp skin might turn
flaky or scaly. Itching starts, rashes appear and one feels comfortable to
scratch the head again and again. In this process, hair fall occurs. Even
without any scratching, hair falls off easily as hair follicles have been
damaged permanently. In this particular type of alopecia, there are almost no
chances of hair recovery.
There are several other hair loss
causes. Usually women, who are pregnant or have just given birth, undergo
extreme stress and diverse changes occur within their bodies. These changes
might affect their scalp and hair fall starts. Some young women also complain
for having the hair fall when they follow some strict diet plan, because many
deficiencies have occurred inside their bodies. Young girls having menstrual
cycle also have this problem, because their bodies always face deficiency of
iron, which is necessary for good hair growth. Some strong medicines and
operations also cause hair fall.
But all these cause temporary
alopecia and one can recover his hair after passing through the stressful period.
Even for other types of alopecia, about 50 percent of cases start to have
normal hair growth within one year diagnosis. No treatment is necessitated if
the problem is checked from the very beginning and hence any unwanted and
unexpected situation can be completely prevented by taking proper measures
beforehand.
